TIFFIN, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The Tiffin Fire Department is investigating a house explosion that happened Monday morning just after 10 at the intersection of Harrison and Washington.
The fire department says the vacant home was badly damaged in the blast. However, no injuries were reported.
The gas company shut off gas service to the rental property, which was undergoing renovations.
Walls are completely torn off. A side of the house even landed on top of a neighbor's car.
The Tiffin fire chief says the house is in such bad shape it will have to be demolished. Still, they are unsure what caused the explosion. When a house is as badly damaged as this one, figuring that out can be tricky.
"The investigation is very difficult because you can't enter the building at all. It's unsafe to enter, so you're trying to observe from the outside and it's the same in our fire tack. Everything was done from the outside to try to stay out of the collapse zone because there's very little holding the building up right now," said Fire Chief William Ennis Jr.
The fire department is investigating the incident as a natural gas explosion.
