The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers to be on the alert for a FedEx scam.
A consumer reported having received an e-mail from FedEx containing an order number, date and time an order was placed.
The e-mail message reads, "Your parcel has arrived at the post office on Jan. 21. Our courier was unable to deliver this parcel to you. To receive your parcel, please go to the nearest office and show this receipt."
The message prompts the consumer to press a button below the message to "Get and print receipt."
The BBB warns consumers not to press the "Get and Print Receipt" button and to immediately delete the message from their e-mail. Pressing the button could create viruses and malware.
Fortunately, the consumer who received this e-mail hesitated to press the button. Instead, he went to the nearest FedEx location to inquire about the e-mail.
FedEx says it has received numerous calls and inquiries about this same type of message, which is a scam. The company confirmed that it does not send unsolicited emails to customers requesting information regarding packages, invoices, account numbers, passwords or personal information.
