NAPOLEON, OH (Toledo News Now) -
It will soon cost more for an EMS ride in Napoleon.
City officials are proposing a .8 percent increase per EMS call and say it is one of the biggest increases in the last 10 years.
Fire Chief Robert Bennett with Napoleon Fire and Rescue says department costs are going up and they have been responding to more calls than ever. He says a .8 percent increase would equal about $5 or $10 more per run.
Bennett says this jump in costs is taking place across the country.
"The rates are established by Medicare. They have what they call a 'rate adjustment' each year, and as they adjust their rates, we adjust the rates to keep in sync with them," explained Bennett.
According to Bennett, insurance companies generally pay more than half the cost of an EMS run for patients. He does not believe this increase will impact the number of calls received.
