A grand opening event took place Thursday at Forrester's on the River, despite the restaurant having been open for a month already.
"[We've had a] great response, especially since we didn't really advertise our opening so far, kind of word of mouth," said Manager Jonathan McQueary. "That's the way we wanted to do it."
McQueary said he can't worry about the two previous restaurants that closed at the location, Navy Bistro and Admiral's American Grill, all he can do is focus on the present, one table at a time.
"Taking care of everybody right when they come in, having good quality, fresh food and having a ton of service," he said.
The banquet hall, now called CJ's Terrace at the Docks, is accepting bookings and the wine bar area will open by the end of February.
McQueary said he's planning to work closely with the other restaurants at the Docks to help boost business.
"I really don't see them as competitors," he said. "We're all in this together. The busier they are, it helps us."
Luis Melendez, part-owner of El Vaquero at the Docks, said he welcomes his new neighbor.
"I think they will benefit everybody because the more good restaurants we got at the Docks, the people will drive by to enjoy the area here," Melendez said.
