BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The
debate over what type of development can be built on the corner of Wooster and
North Prospect streets in Bowling Green has been going on for four months.
A
new "B-5" zone was created to allow for certain restrictions requested by
nearby residents, including no bars, tattoo shops, or car dealers. Only a
2-story building – commercial on the bottom, residential on top – will be
allowed.
The
final details, involving the buffer zone, were last to be approved at a meeting
Monday night.
A
wall will be required to be 6-feet-tall, made of brick, placed five feet from the
edge of one property line, and 10 feet from another. Residents wanted a taller
wall, further from the property lines.
"Moving
the wall even a few feet off the property is going to effect things like
engineering, the drainage, the parking lot," explained Steve Green, a
representative of the developers. "If we have to move that wall off of the
property line, it's not going to work."
The
option to change what was recommended by city officials, and adding more
suggestions by concerned residents, was turned down when four members of
council approved the ordinance as-is.
The
development of the building can go ahead as planned.
