Waterville, OH -
The Lucas County Commissioners have given the green light
for the engineer's office to move ahead with right-of-way acquisition and
construction plans for the roundabouts project at Dutch Road and
Waterville-Monclova Road.
The $1.7 million project involves using mainly federal
transportation funds to build two new modern roundabouts at both intersections.
Even though traffic studies show traffic there has
decreased due to the US-24 project, traffic is expected to increase in that
area in the near future.
"With the development we expect to occur near the new
interchange and other areas close to this roundabout, we expect that to get
back to the old numbers very quickly and probably exceed that," said Lucas
County Engineer Keith Earley.
Earley said traffic safety will also improve by reducing
the chances for high-speed, side-impact crashes.
Traffic closures are scheduled between June and August of
2014, to minimize the transportation disruptions for Anthony Wayne Schools.
