A local mayor is looking for investors in hopes of building a community senior center.
McComb mayor Robert Schwab says it is a problem for the town's population because the elderly move away after reaching a certain age to find assisted living.
Currently, the closest facilities are in Findlay or Fostoria, which is why the mayor is looking to build a senior center in McComb and speaking with investors.
The village currently owns a 40-acre piece of land near the village park. Schwab would like to see that land turned into a senior housing community, but the project is expected to cost several million dollars. Schwab said it would be worth it, to keep McComb's senior citizens living in the town that they call home.
"We're in a small community, but the seniors that are in our community don't like the fact that once they get to the age where they need the senior living, they have to leave our village to go to one," he said.
Planning is still in the early stages, but Schwab thinks building the center could help keep the village population from decreasing, as well as attract seniors from other villages.
