HANCOCK COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Under Gov. John Kasich's
new school budget proposal, Findlay is the only school district in Hancock
County set to see any increase in state aid over the next two years.
Although some residents
don't think this is necessarily fair, McComb Superintendent Mike Lamb said the
news didn't come as a surprise to him.
"[I'm] still optimistic,"
he said. "It could have been much worse. We could have received some
significant cuts like we have the past two years."
In anticipation of no
increases, McComb closed a middle school building over the past year. Now
grades K-12 are housed in one building. They save money by not heating or
staffing two buildings, and Lamb said they have enough room.
Some residents of the
village are more frustrated with the proposed budget.
"Our children here in the
McComb area and other rural areas…have a right to just as much funding for
their education as the larger schools do," said Teresa Andrews, owner of a
local thrift store.
