TIFFIN, OH (Toledo News Now) -
At least three illegal
forms of synthetic marijuana were seized at a store in Tiffin Friday.
The raid was part of a
statewide search announced by Attorney General Mike Dewine, in an ongoing
effort to fight the sale of illegal drugs.
The drugs seized were
called Shpark in the Dark, Lotto, and Atomic. All three are similar to spice
and K2, and they were found at Zig Stag.
"The police department,
the sheriff's department and metrich have received numerous complaints in
reference to the synthetic marijuana," said Jeff Cook, special agent supervisor
with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. "A lot of the complaints are
that the people are purchasing at the locations we hit with the search warrant
Complaints received were
that young adults and even minors were using the drugs.
"There have been many
people who have had overdose situations with the synthetic drugs because they
are expecting it to be like what they are used to with regular marijuan and it's
just…not the same thing," Cook said.
Dewine has made it part of
his mission to stop the sale of synthetic drugs, and authorities all around
Ohio are stepping up to do so, but the fight doesn't stop there.
"We go after the Internet
companies that are selling it to people in Ohio," Cook explained. "And then,
eventually, we'll go after the manufacturers who are shipping it to Ohio."
