TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

After a fight that broke out during a basketball game at Scott High School last Friday, Toledo Public Schools (TPS) security are reviewing video to determine how exactly it started.

TPS security said two students watching the game Friday started fighting in the stands. Sheriff's deputies and school officers deployed pepper spray into the crowd to stop the fighting – hitting innocent bystanders as well.

"They clearly sprayed innocent people that weren't even fighting," said Roger Craig, whose daughter was arrested after the fight. "You got old people there, kids there…And do we have to wait until somebody dies from being trampled?"

Officers said the fighting spilled into the parking lot, where two girls – including Craig's daughter – were arrested for another, smaller fight. Craig said he's wondering why the people who started the violence inside haven't been arrested, and if the officers handled the situation in the best way.

"It's a very difficult situation," said Brian Murphy, with TPS. "Obviously, once [officials] engage in a situation, they don't choose to use pepper spray unless they feel like the overall safety of the students present there – and others around, including themselves – are at risk."

The district is going over video to determine who started the fight, and what charges may be dealt to those responsible.
