OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The city of Oregon is beginning a citizen police class in March. Police Chief Mike Navarre says it's a great way for citizens to learn about crime prevention, criminal investigations, road patrol tactics and even self defense.
Participants will learn how to handle a firearm and will even have the opportunity to go to the Oregon police shooting range and participate in exercises.
Classes start in March and are held every Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for 10 weeks.
Navarre says the class is not only beneficial to the students but also the officers. The training helps others to understand what officer go through each day on patrol.
Participants must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid Ohio driver's license and pass a background check.
