TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Toledo
police are asking residents to keep their eyes open and doors locked as they
work to solve a series of recent break-ins across the city.
There
have been over 20 home break-ins reported over the past few days, and police
say the thieves are after anything that can make them quick cash: jewelry,
electronics, even air conditioning units.
"They
take them to a recycling center and get paid for them," said Detective Gerken
of the Toledo Police Department (TPD). "So it's fast, I wouldn't say easy."
Police
said the thieves have also been snatching smaller items like TVs, hand guns,
jewelry, and video game systems. They can sell the items easily to friends or
resale shops.
Barbara
Smith, however, said the thieves should stay out of her neighborhood and work
hard for what they want instead.
"We're
trying to have a safe place to stay, and you know, us neighbors around here, we
kinda look out for each other," Smith said. "We just don't like the stuff that
goes on with the stealing, and the break-ins."
