TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Toledo police are still searching for two suspects who they say punched an elderly woman in the face when she refused to let them take her bag. This happened last Thursday morning in the 6000 block of Lewis Avenue in west Toledo.
Police say the 76-year-old was walking to work at McDonald's around 5 a.m. when she was ambushed and attacked by two men. Police say she was unable to get a good look, but they hope people in the neighborhood may be able to help fill in the blanks.
According to police, one of the woman's coworkers called 911 after she came into work with a bloody nose and mouth. Police say the woman was approached from behind by two men who tried to snatch her purse. When the victim would not give it to them, police say the suspects got violent.
"It's one thing to steal an older woman's purse, but to punch her in the face like this person did to the point where she's going to need some facial surgery, it's just really heinous," said Sgt. Joe Heffernan with the Toledo Police Department.
The two suspects are still on the run. Anyone with information is urged to call CrimeStopper at 419-255-1111.
