Bridge repair will close a portion of state Route 2 near the Ottawa-Lucas county border for three months.
(Toledo News Now) -
Drivers who take state Route 2 will soon need to find an alternative route.
Starting Feb. 25, the Ohio Department of Transportation is shutting down SR 2 for three months, as a crews work to repair the bridge over Crane Creek. This sits just past the Bono curve near the Lucas-Ottawa county border. SR 2 will be closed between Krause and Veller roads.
The bridge over Crane Creek is in poor condition with crumbling concrete and signs of weathering.
While the roadwork could be considered good news for drivers' safety, it could easily be considered bad news for local businesses up the road, as potential customers are forced to take detours around the construction.
Detours will be set up on state Routes 591 and 21. With gas prices nearly $4 a gallon, drivers are sure to feel the impact.
Bridgework is expected to be finished May 25.
Editor's Note: Every day after that deadline, the contractor employed by Ohio Department of Transportation will be charged a $10,000 fine until work is complete, not ODOT.
