LONDON, February 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
DfT funding boosts growth of electric vehicle charging industry for UK PLC
POD Point, Europe's leading electric vehicle charging company, has forecast 100% year on year growth.
The UK leads technological development in electric vehicle charging in Europe, and POD Point, who introduced charging hardware and energy management software, has been instrumental in forming the UK's leadership position in this new and rapidly expanding industry.
POD Point exports in partnership with energy companies, public infrastructure providers and all leading motor manufacturers. The company, which was founded in 2009, has doubled in size each year and now has a turnover of £4 million.
Erik Fairbairn, POD Point CEO said: "Electric vehicle infrastructure is one of the most rapidly expanding sectors in the UK, and POD Point's phenominal record of strong growth, has been fuelled by its introduction of innovative products and new business models to the public, private and corporate markets."
He added: "The case for electric motoring becomes ever more persuasive and electric cars are set to become mainstream with the introduction of an increasing number of reasonably priced family car models in 2013 and the number of electric car drivers is set to double every year. The vast majority of motorists drive under 30 miles a day in their cars - well within the typical 100-mile range of an electric car. One hundred miles of motoring costs just over £2 in an electric car (when charged off-peak) compared to over £12 in a petrol or diesel driven car."
The Department for Transport's announcement earlier today of £37 million funding for electric vehicle charging brings the UK in line with European countries. Fully national, the funding supersedes the previous Plugged in Places funding, and extends across all of the UK and encompasses a strategy for electric vehicle charging at railway stations.
Founded in 2009, POD Point was recently voted one of the most disruptive companies in the UK. POD Point already supplies 13 European countries, including the Nordic territories, where electric vehicles sales are in excess of 5% of new car sales.
