TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Last week two Labrador retrievers were stuck on the ice of Maumee Bay for hours until they were rescued by the Washington Township Fire and Rescue team. They were sent to the Lucas County Dog Warden's Office and not picked up by their owner until days later.
Both dogs are safe and back at home now.
Larry Jeffrey picked Muffin up Tuesday after paying the care fees for her. He said he did not have enough money to bring Lady home the same day, so he was planning to return for her later in the week.
The dog's story spread fast and people started their own private donations for the Jeffrey family. One woman said she and others raised about $200 to help Lady go home.
Lucas County Dog Warden Julie Lyle said before going home, Lady was microchipped. She also said both dogs are now licensed, so if they get away again, finding the owners should not be as difficult.
