TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The road to college hockey's
Frozen Four tournament goes through downtown Toledo's Huntington Center.
Tickets are now on sale
for regional semi-final games the weekend of March 30th.
Bowling Green State
University is the NCAA host school.
Just like college
basketball's March Madness, the four teams participating will not be known until
a week before the tournament, but it's expected they'll be within driving
distance of Toledo.
"There's a chance
we get Miami of Ohio," said Steve Miller of the Huntington Center. "Bowling
Green is our host school. They could participate. Michigan, Michigan State,
Notre Dame. Great opportunity to get a great fan base from a close distance."
Toledo is one of four
semi-final sites. The Visitor's Bureau expects 4,000 fans to occupy 225 hotel
rooms for the games.
This is the second time
officials at Huntington Center have made a pitch for the tournament.
"It's a combination
of things," Miller explained. "It's the facility, volunteers in the community,
hotels and location. And Toledo as a location makes a huge difference drawing
people from the Midwest."
Tickets are $75 for
three games. There will be two semi-final games on Saturday. The two winners
face each other in a Sunday championship game. That winner advances to
Pittsburgh for the Frozen Four tournament.
