There has been a dramatic spike in the number of people applying for Carrying a Concealed Weapon permits in Wood County. Officials say in the last few months, applications have nearly doubled.
Officials say in December, scheduling an appointment took about three weeks. Now, since so many people have been inquiring to obtain these permits, they have to wait about six to eight weeks.
Officials have also had to reduce appointment times from 30 to 15 minutes.
The deputy in charge says he is not surprised by the recent spike in applications.
"You have a school shooting, you have a guy who goes onto a bus and takes out somebody, you have the mall shooting, a theatre shooting, all within the last six to eight months. Here, people are nervous. They're getting a way to protect themselves and their families," said Deputy Isaiah Loar with the Wood County Sheriff's Office.
Anyone interested in getting a CCW permit can book an appointment online through the Wood County Sheriff's Office.
