Strongsville schools BOE files charges against SEA, teachers prepared to strike
STRONGSVILLE, OH (WOIO) -
The Strongsville City Schools Board of Education has filed an unfair labor practice charge against the Strongsville Education Association, according to David Frazee, board president.
There is still no deal in place for Strongsville schools, and a potential teachers strike is just days away.
Both sides did sit down with a mediator, but no word of any progress.
According to a press release from Strongsville schools, the charges filed relates to SEA's behavior at the negotiation site in Independence, Ohio. It indicates that around 9:30 PM on February 25 approximately 100 SEA members gathered in the parking lot outside the offices of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
The unfair labor practice charge also states that the teachers' actions on February 25 were a clear violation of SEA's duty to bargain in good faith. This bad-faith bargaining is in violation of O.R.C. 4117.11 (B) (3), according to the charge.
Teachers plan to walk out on Monday if they do not get a new contract. The district says classes will go on.
