Springfield Township's fire and emergency departments are using technology to make their jobs a little easier.
Last year, Lucas County started a new software system for fire and EMS reports. Now departments in Springfield Township will incorporate tablets into their daily routines.
Instead of handwriting all their reports, the departments are going paperless, using the touch-screen system. Mobile software is currently being installed but in just a few short weeks the tablets will be ready to use.
"What will happen is when they go to the call, they can start the report on the tablet, and then what will end up happening is when they come back to the fire station and when they're back again, it will automatically sink to our server and will download the report and will also download the report to the hospitals," explained Rick Helminski, Springfield Township assistant fire chief.
The Springfield Township Fire Department earmarked money specifically for the tablets.
