Forbes released its annual list of the Top 20 Most Miserable Cities and Toledo remains in the ranks.
Maybe it's because of new jobs coming to the Glass City, or more entertainment, like Hollywood Casino, or new restaurants popping up, but whatever it is, people seem to be growing happier here.
Forbes moved down Toledo from #8 in 2012 to #11 in 2013. In 2011, Toledo was #12.
Here are the top-ranked cities for 2013:
#11 Toledo, OH
#10 New York, NY
#9 Lake County, IL
#8 Stockton, CA
#7 Warren, MI
#6 Vallejo, CA
#5 Modesto, CA
#4 Chicago, IL
#3 Rockford, IL
#2 Flint, MI
#1 Detroit, MI
Forbes uses 10 categories to determine which cities to place on the list, including crimes, house prices, unemployment rates, even weather.
Mayor Mike Bell, a lifelong Toledoan, says the list has no weight, because Toledo has a lot to offer.
"People who live here, love it here. So, somebody that's judging us from a distance that doesn't live here, doesn't work here doesn't know," said Bell. "The last two nights, you come to the downtown area, it's been packed. We had Bob Seger here on Wednesday. We had a hockey game last night and we have Bob Seger here again tonight. How many cities can say that they've pulled that off?"
Despite the fact that Toledo is still on the list, people living and working here say there are lots of reasons not to be miserable. In fact, on Friday night, The City Paper is celebrating some of those special reasons with the Best of Toledo Party at the Premier on Heatherdowns.
