TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority (TLCPA) is moving
forward with the next phase of the project to convert the former Toledo Jeep
Parkway site into the Overland Industrial Park for new employment
opportunities.
The port is now advertising for bids for the construction
of a 1,500-foot roadway and extending utility lines into the property from
Central Avenue. The roadway will serve as the main entrance until ODOT
completes phase two of the I-75 interchange project.
Once the upcoming work is done, a spec building will go
up to attract companies there, and the rest of the site will be considered to
be ‘shovel ready' for new development.
Matt Sapara said the TLCPA has been focused on turning
around the 111-acre property, which provided job opportunities to generations
of auto workers.
"This has been the number one goal since the Port
Authority acquired the property in 2010," Sapara said. "By the end of the
summer we will have that road in. We'll be onto our spec building, no doubt
about it."
Sapara is confident new employers will be locating there
because of the property's rail service and close proximity to the interstate
highway system.
