SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Residents in Springfield
Township and the Village of Holland will soon have information on how to handle
a practical emergency.
Springfield Township
Assistant Fire Chief Rick Helminski said last year's wind storm really rocked
the area. Now, members of the fire department, high school students, and the
Village of Holland have partnered with local businesses to create an emergency
procedures guide.
"We needed a tool to
provide to the citizens," Helminski said. "So citizens can prepare themselves
for events that are identified in this flip chart, and then also in the event
of something happening, it shows them how to respond."
Springfield High School
students with the group "Students in Action" took their day off to volunteer to
put the packets together. The students said giving back to the community and
keeping their neighbors safe are their main goals.
"This is just one of the
many things we do," said Springfield Senior Carolyn Manley. "We had about 200
students sign up to help out today. Instead of staying home and sleeping, they
came to, you know, keep their community safe."
Impact America developed
the emergency procedure guides. Students who participated will hand deliver
them to residents starting Wednesday.
