MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Friends and family said
goodbye Friday night to a member of the 180th Fighter Wing, Staff
Sergeant Krista Meeks-Jones.
Jones was an airman,
mother, and native of Whitehouse, Ohio. Those who knew her remember her as a
woman who was always happy and smiling.
There is still confusion
regarding Jones' death. She was found shot, dead insider her Fort Knox home.
Her husband, Army Specialist Christopher Meeks-Jones died from a gunshot wound,
as well. Authorities said the incident appears to have stemmed from a domestic
dispute.
"Still can't believe that
this happened," said Jones' uncle Mark Dukett. "She's going to be well-missed
by everybody."
This was the first murder
on the Fort Knox base since 1993. Jones' two children were in the house at the
time of the shooting, but both were unharmed.
The news has been shocking
to the community, as well.
"I think it's very
difficult when a life is taken so abrupt we don't have a chance to actually
feel the entire impact," said Staff Sergeant Dayna Ellis, who knew Jones. "It'll
take time for everyone, I feel, to kind of move on."
