AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

Five people were arrested for operating a meth lab in the city of Akron.

Officers responded to a home in the 1200 block of Florida Avenue for reports of a meth lab. As officers were checking the outside of the house, officers could smell a strong odor of chemicals, commonly used to manufacture methamphetamines, coming from the basement windows.

As officers got around to the back of the house, they noticed people running around on the inside of the house. The basement windows were closed and one of the occupants tried to jump out a window.

Officers announced their presence several times. The suspect that attempted to jump out a window came out. He was identified as Joseph Michael Overdorf, 29, and was taken into custody.

Officers then executed a search warrant and recovered items commonly used to manufacture methamphetamines.

Four people inside the house were also arrested: Alan E. Devine, 23,; John M. Greathouse, 30,; Tracy Marie Strata, 23,; and Amanda L. Cline, 26. They were all charged with Illegal Manufacturing of Methamphetamines and Illegal Assembly of Chemicals and booked into the Summit County Jail.
