TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
On Tuesday, Toledo City Council will likely vote to approve acquiring the parking lot located next to Fire Station 3, so their renovation project can move forward this year.
Their plan calls for that additional space to be used for building an extension, a new garage area for fire vehicles to be kept.
The current floor was deemed to be no longer stable enough, and that's why the station was closed last year. The measure before council allocates $16,000 for the transaction.
Neighbors in the area, including Ted Grandowicz, said they want the station to reopen.
"We notice this fire station was always on the go," Grandowicz said. "They were gone constantly, day and night. It means a lot for the neighborhood. We may get our value on properties going back up instead of going down."
Not only is the city planning to renovate Fire Station 3 this year, but also to build a new Fire Station 12 at Blair Park.
