Fire and rescue crews were called to The Andersons' complex on Illinois Avenue in Maumee around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Crews responded to a report about a minor fire at a fertilizer facility.
A spokesperson for The Andersons says a small fire broke out in a dust collections system at its dispersible granular plant where grass and turf fertilizer is processed. In-house fire and safety personnel were able to put out the flames before fire crews arrived.
"What we make is not combustible. It actually happened in the dust collections system and it was immediately found and extinguished by our internal folks. But we did contact the fire department to come out just to make sure as a precautionary measure," said Debra Crow with The Andersons.
