TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo Police and Toledo Public Schools say a Bowsher High School student was approached and offered a ride home by a suspicious individual Monday.

Police say the 14-year-old student was walking home when the man followed her for a few blocks before asking if she needed a ride home.  The girl said no, and ran to her aunt's house, police said.

The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20's with brown hair. Police say he was driving a dark blue older model car and wearing a blue coat.

TPS says the incident happened sometime in the afternoon. Students are on an altered schedule because Ohio Graduation Testing is being conducted this week. TPS says the girl was likely dismissed sometime between 11:30 a.m. and noon.

TPS says Bowsher parents have been notified of the incident, along with parents of students who attend elementary schools in the area.

School officials stressed the importance of students walking to and from school in groups after the incident.
