The Toledo Police Department, in cooperation with the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio, Inc., will be recognizing the 2013 graduating class of senior volunteers of the Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol this week.
The ceremony will take place Friday around noon at the Toledo Police Academy with certificates presented by Toledo Police Chief Derrick Diggs.
Volunteers ages 55 and older completed seven-day training, which included defensive driving, first aid and other services available to senior citizens.
RSVP is responsible for checking on Toledo's older residents who live alone, providing status checks of individuals, as well as homes that are left temporarily vacant while individuals travel. The Patrol started in 2000 and is a vital part of the TPD helping to ensure the safety of local senior citizens.
The RSVP currently has 50 trained volunteers who assist nearly 100 older residents citywide.
