TIFFIN, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Tiffin Police are
investigating several cases of credit card fraud, including eight within the
city and several others nearby.
"We started getting
numerous complaints about cards being compromised and fraudulent purchases on
them," explained Detective Sgt. Jason Windsor.
The calls started coming
in to the department last Monday. Det. Windsor said the stolen card numbers are
being used across several states.
"Right now, some people
have lost $100 out of their checking account, some people have lost over
$1,000," he said. "The banks are working with them to try to recover their
funds."
Credit card fraud can have
a long-term affect on victims. Windsor said many victims don't feel comfortable
using debit or credit cards again.
But Tiffin Police are
investigating the rash of crime and have a strong message for whoever is behind
it.
"We're going to catch him,"
Windsor said. "We're hoping we will get some good leads behind this and track
down what started this and who is involved."
