TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Toledo Mayor Mike Bell is
calling for major changes to the oversight for city parks and recreations
programs.
Bell's proposal calls for a
single parks and recreation advisory board, but some members of council are
worried neighbors will lose their voice in the process.
If approved, the measure
would unify all current working parks and recreation boards, as well as the
Toledo City Parks Commission and Toledo Athletic Commission. It would dissolve
more than a dozen in-active park boards, but Councilman Mike Craig says the
city should find ways to increase neighborhood participation.
"The smaller the revenue
the City is able to devote to these parks, the more citizen involvement we
should have, because citizen involvement is what parks are all about," Craig
said.
The issue will be
discussed further during a committee hearing before council votes on the
legislation.
