City considers blocking renewal of 2 bar liquor permits

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The city of Toledo is considering asking the state to block the renewal of two liquor permits, at O'Fives Bar 'N Grill on Starr Avenue and at Remy's Gentlemens Club on Matzinger Road.

Toledo police say there have been numerous problems at both establishments with liquor violations, drugs and violence.

Sue Coleman lives a few doors away from O'Fives and says over recent months, the neighborhood has been quiet since the bar closed in December.

"No loud noises. No loud music. No everything. It's very quiet," said Coleman.

Coleman hopes the city will object to the permit renewal to try to block any chance of another bar operation opening there.

"I'm glad it's shut down and I hope it never reopens," said Coleman.

If the city files an objection, the state will hold hearings for the permit holders in Columbus. City Council will discuss the matter during a committee hearing March 19 at 1 p.m.
