Homeowners in the Arbor Way neighborhood in Sylvania Township have mixed feelings about the possibility of becoming part of the city of Sylvania, but mostly, residents say they are eager.
Some residents say they are in support of the petition that was sent to the Lucas County Board of Commissioners, while others say they are against it. One resident said they are excited the annexation is moving forward.
The Arbor Way neighborhood is just outside city limits.
The board of commissioners received the petition March 12, with more than 20 homeowner signatures. Residents want their 6.3 acres of land to be a part of the city of Sylvania. The main reason is for a sanitary sewer system because residents currently use septic tanks.
Homeowners also say they are unhappy with the services they receive, including leaf pickup and street lighting. A resident who supports the petition says the annexation would mean lower taxes.
The commissioners have scheduled a hearing for May 21 at 1:30 p.m. At that time, the city and township can present their cases regarding the annexation.
