MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -
New water meters will be
installed inside every home in Maumee.
The city has been working
on the project for the past month, after the water department told them the
existing meters were not being manufactured anymore.
After searching for new
meters, the city settled on automated meters that will eliminate the need for
manual readings. These new meters will allow the city to gather information
electronically, without going to the individual households.
They will also allow
residents to monitor their real-time water consumption online.
"If they have a high
consumption within a 24-hour period, we can be notified to alert the homeowner
that they may have a problem internally, so we can then save them money," said
Public Service Director Joe Camp.
The new meters will not
cost residents anything. They are expected to be installed by the end of
October.
