TIFFIN, OH (Toledo News Now) -
After a million-dollar cut
from the state and a failed levy in November, the City of Tiffin had to
eliminate funding for the city pool and Fourth of July fireworks show. Now a
committee has raised a portion of the money needed to keep the pool open this
year.
Jan Betz heads the
committee that has been going to local businesses asking for donations. So far
they've raised about $15,000, but they need at least $27,000 more.
"We were born and raised
here, most of us," Betz said. "And the amenities that the community offers mean
everything."
The YMCA is taking over
the operation of the pool, but they are not funding it.
The community needs to
raise the money by early April to open this pool this summer.
Those in charge of the
fireworks show are putting together a festival in June to raise money.
Any extra money raised
will go toward next year's fund.
To donate to the cause,
people can send money to 25 Melmore Street, Tiffin, Ohio. Checks need to be
made out to, "Tiffin Pool and Fireworks Fund."
