Be the Match is looking to sign up people to be bone marrow donors and organizers say it only takes 10 minutes to save a life.
PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Saving a life could be as easy as swabbing your cheek. Be a Match was at Owens Community College looking for bone marrow donors Tuesday.
Be the Match is looking to sign up people to be bone marrow donors and organizers say it only takes 10 minutes to save a life. All you have to do is fill out a couple of forms and swab your cheek with a Q-tip. That's all it takes to join the bone marrow registry. Once you join, you'll be contacted if you're a match.
Be the Match organizers says if you are a match, you're a cure for someone struggling with a blood disease. They also say if you do decide to donate your bone marrow the process is easy.
"For 70 to 80 percent of our donors, it's no more complicated or painful than donating blood. So there's absolutely not a reason I can think of that people wouldn't want to join," said Tonya Davis with Be the Match.
Be the Match is looking for people ages 18 to 44 to join the registry. They hope to register at least 100 new donors Tuesday.
