SANDUSKY, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Two
years after a Sandusky police officer was killed in the line of duty, his
brothers on the force and others came together to remember Andrew Dunn.
Dunn
was killed during a shootout in 2011. Reports showed he was wearing a
bulletproof vest, but was hit in an area not covered. He was the first Sandusky
officer killed in the line of duty since 1906.
His
murder devastated his family, the department, and the city. They gathered
Tuesday in front of the Erie County Courthouse.
The
chaplain of the local lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police Rob Gardin placed
flowers on the memorial that bears Dunn's name.
"For
some of us, it's two years gone by fast, and for some of us, it's just like
everything happened yesterday," Gardin said. "I think as long as everybody
keeps Andy in their heart and remembers who he was before he was an officer,
and his life as an officer, then his memory lives on with everybody…He'll never
perish."
Prayers
were said for Dunn's family, all officers, and troops overseas.
