We have updated information for the shooting on Orange Street in Springfield Wednesday night.
Springfield police have arrested Rafael Rivera-Vazquez, 26, Roberto Antonio Malendez, 29, Vilmanuel Mulero-Vasquez, 23, all of Springfield, for alleged involvement in what police say was a gang-related shooting.
A 22-year-old male victim was shot three times in the back and a 27-year-old male from Springfield was shot in the neck and back. The responding officers performed CPR and called two ambulances.
Other officers arrived on scene witnesses gave them great information and descriptions of the three suspects that did the shooting. Police say witnesses claimed there was a verbal altercation between the two victims and the three shooters in Johnny Appleseed Park.
About 30 minutes later, police say the three suspects came back to the area and spotted the two victims in front of the "Red Apple" Chinese Restaurant at 10 Orange Street. Shots were fired and the three suspects fled down Hancock Street.
Officers Juan Ocasio and Christopher Collins spotted the three wanted suspects walking slowly on Chester Street a short time later. The officers approached and question them as they attempted to escape. The officers detained the three suspects while many witnesses identified them as the three involved in the shooting.
One of the male victims is said to be in critical condition but is expected to survive. The other male victim is in good condition.
We spoke with the owners of the block of businesses who rushed to the scene as soon as they heard one of their businesses was involved.
They've owned it for 26 years.
"It's certainly the first time anything like this has happened. We come down here day and night to handle things when tenants call us and nothing like this has ever happened before," said Richard Goldman, who owns the block of businesses with his wife.
All three suspects are facing multiple charges including, Assault with intent to murder.
