The Tyler Police Department has released the name of the girl involved in a traffic accident on Wednesday night.
According to Tyler Police Public Information Officer Don Martin, Katelin Sikes, 18, entered the intersection of Golden Road and Fifth Street in Tyler just after 7 p.m. heading west.
Witnesses say she could not see the traffic lights because of the glare from the setting sun, and may have run a red light.
In the intersection, she was hit by another driver. The wreck crushed the Pontiac Grand Am's driver-side door, pinning Sikes inside. Rescue officers had to cut the car open to get her out.
Sikes is currently in fair condition at East Texas Medical Center.
The driver of the other car was not hurt. Police have not released the name of that driver.
