A proposal has been placed before Toledo City Council to
build a short extension of Executive Parkway to help with the redevelopment of
the former Showcase Cinemas property along Secor Road.
The measure calls for the city to spend $340,000 from its
capital improvements fund, to extend the road just east of Secor, to provide
additional access to Secor for that site. The money to be spent was collected
through a tax increment financing district, which can be used for public
Councilman George Sarantou calls it a perfect use for
"It'll bring jobs to West Toledo," he said. "I'm told the
developers have commitments from two hotels as well as develop office space, or
restaurant space or some kind of commercial space."
Key Hotels and Property Management is targeting a Hampton
Inn and Suites and a Holiday Inn Express for that site. Sarantou also calls it
a perfect timing for that work, since Secor Road is being rebuilt between I-475
and Central Avenue.
