TIFFIN, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Will alcohol soon be for
sale during festivals in Tiffin?
It's currently being
debated by city council members and if it passes, it could be a way to raise money
for the city's Fourth of July fireworks and the swimming pool.
If all goes as planned,
two groups hosting a music festival this summer could use money raised from
alcohol sales to help fund the summer activities. Currently, there are no alcohol
sales allowed in city parks, but the groups want to set up beer tents and
gardens at Hedges-Boyer Park this June.
Council members are okay
with the idea of alcohol sales, as long as certain rules are in place to make
sure everything runs smoothly.
"Some of the concern is
that we don't want to have an all-out beer bash, where people would get
downright belligerent," said Council President Paul Elchert. "So we want to be
able to keep it under control, so that we can continue having these types of things
in the park, as long as they're supervised and maintained properly."
Since this proposal is the
first of its kind, city officials are still in the process of drafting wording
that ensures permit requests in the future are in the best interest of the
Council discussed the
proposal at a special meeting Monday, and could vote on the matter at their
meeting next week.
