The Bowling Green High
School band is getting national attention. Next week, they'll travel to
Washington, DC to perform during the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
It's especially exciting
for the band, because this is the first time they've performed in the capital
After a competitive
application process and 21 months of fundraising, 126 BGHS band members will be
headed to DC.
They will have two
performances, and their director says they've been working toward this for
"Most band students put in
six, seven, or eight years of their childhood and their youth," said Karen
Smith, BGHS Director of Bands. "They started in fifth or sixth grade, they've
been practicing, playing and performing, representing this community for all of
their youth, basically, and this is sort of the icing on the cake."
The band will leave
Bowling Green on April 2, and students said they are extremely excited for
their week in Washington.
