TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Republican Tony DeGidio remains on the Lucas County Elections Board, after a failed attempt to toss out his voter registration.

The board held a hearing Wednesday based on claims he no longer lives in Lucas County. That challenge was rejected by a 2-1 vote. Three of the four board members were at the meeting, with DeGidio himself not attending.

The challenge was filed by Republican John Marshall, a former county commissioner candidate. He urged the board to rule DeGidio's registration should be tossed out because of a lack of established residency. Marshall pointed out the address on Scarlet Oak listed on that registration is a duplex of a friend of DeGidio, but he does not live there.

"The point is when it comes down to it, Mr. DeGidio does not live there. He's never lived there. He's only visited. Period," said Marshall.

Elections Board Chairman Ron Rothenbuhler says he believes DeGidio still has the intent to return to Lucas County, and that is all that is needed to keep his registration valid.

When DeGidio was appointed to the board in July 2011, we reported he had not voted in 10 years, but that drew no response from the Ohio Secretary of State.
