Dr. Mike Zalar, current superintendent of Oregon, believes he could make an impact as superintendent in Toledo.
OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The top choices for the Toledo Public School interim superintendent position have been narrowed down to three.
Dr. Mike Zalar is currently the superintendent of Oregon Public Schools and has been with the school district for 10 years. For the first five years, he was the Clay High School principal and for the last five years he has been superintendent.
Other candidates for the position include Douglas Heuer, the current superintendent of Cleveland Heights-University Heights Schools, and internal candidate Dr. Romules Durant, the current assistant superintendent with TPS.
Zalar says he has had a good run in Oregon and wants to take his expertise over to Toledo and make an impact.
"I think enhancing educational opportunities for kids, increasing student achievement. I know that attendance is a challenge in Toledo. I think I can help out with that. Parent engagement, those types of things will be what I'll be looking at," said Zalar.
Whoever is selected will start after the current superintendent contract ends July 31.
