Frozen Four in Toledo this weekend

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The road to the NCAA's Frozen Four tournament goes through downtown Toledo's Huntington Center this weekend.

Four teams are here, but only one heads to Pittsburgh to play for college hockey's national championship.

Fans began arriving on Friday, packing hotels, restaurants and bars.

The Winfield family checked into the Park Inn, proud supporters of St. Cloud State University.

"I think it's awesome. Looking forward to seeing some good NCAA hockey," said Mark Winfield.

Toledo is one of four semi-final sites. The Visitors Bureau expects 4,000 fans to occupy 225 hotel rooms in the area.

This is the second time folks at the Huntington Center have made a pitch for the tournament.

"It's a combination of things," said Steve Miller, of the Huntington Center. "It's the facility, volunteers in the community, hotels and location. And Toledo as a location makes a huge difference, drawing people from the Midwest."

The Blarney Pub is drawing plenty of out-of-towners. TVs at the bar are tuned into the other three Frozen Four sites this weekend.

"We're going to be pretty packed here," said Bill Kline, of The Blarney. "The Notre Dame alumni hockey team is going to be over at the Event Center doing a little pre-game action before the game tomorrow."

Two semi-final games will be played Saturday. Sunday will be the championship game, with that winner advancing to Pittsburgh.

Tickets for all games are still available.
