A burning cross, a Smith county man beaten and shot by a family member, and in critical condition. We are told this is much more than a family feud, and outraged family members are calling it a "hate crime."
Critical and repeat violations are usually a good benchmark for judging a restaurant's cleanliness. Preparing food may need to take a back seat to spring cleaning for several area eateries.
IHOP along Airport Highway in south Toledo racked up four violations, with the majority of them cleaning-related. Management was told the entire cook line is in need of attention because grease and dust are easy to see on vents and kitchen appliances. The restaurant is also in need of a new microwave because its current one is peeling.
McDonald's on Cherry Street in north Toledo earned three violations. Cleaning needs to be a top priority, especially when grease is stuck on cooking grills. Inspectors noted fryer baskets of french fries were sitting entirely uncovered in the walk-in freezer. Cups were also found sitting on the floor in storage.
Pizza boxes set up shop on the floor at Little Caesar's on Monroe Street in Sylvania. Inspectors found five violations, including no time marked on the Hot and Ready Pizza rack, leaving employees to guess how long the pizza has been sitting there. Inspectors also found holes in the wall.
Seven violations were found at Andrea's Sports Pub on Alexis Road in west Toledo. Grease and food debris cover the inside of the oven, while dust and grease are on the hood filters under the grill. Sink faucets are leaking and employees were reminded to dump dirty mop water down the sink, as opposed to outside.
Renovations are key to keeping inspectors happy. Applebee's on Dussel Drive in Maumee had three violations. A plumber needs to be called to fix a deteriorating sink and the tiles in the walk-in freezer need to be replaced because they are also deteriorating.
On a positive note, Wendy's on Dussel Drive is in the lead this week with no violations.
