BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -
A Bowling Green man is still in the hospital after being stabbed outside a Taco Bell early Sunday morning.
Police say 21-year-old Carl Braden stabbed Rory Cheeks in the abdomen and back multiple times. Braden is now being charged with felonious assault.
"It was just a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical altercation, which then resulted in an individual being stabbed over it," explained Detective Scott Kleiber.
Kleiber says he has been receiving conflicting statements, but believes numerous people were involved in the fight. Kelly Buser was also arrested and cited for disorderly conduct and fighting.
"We're not sure what her part was, and how involved she was with the parties, but she was in the area and was assaulting one of the females in the suspect's party," Kleiber said.
Police say reports indicate that the groups started arguing inside the Taco Bell, but their argument turned physical in the parking lot outside.
"There was a subject on the ground who was familiar to the suspect, and apparently at some he was struck," Kleiber said. "Perhaps it was a result, as far as seeing his friend or associate being assaulted, that [Braden] responded with a knife that he had in his possession at the time."
According to police, Braden fled the scene after stabbing Cheeks. He was later found and arrested.
Detective Kleiber said although it's common to see fights, stabbings are rare.
"Stabbings are not very common here," he said. "But altercations that include large groups of people, sometimes these things happen."
A preliminary hearing has been set for April 8 for Braden.
