WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Millions of dollars are being invested in northern Wood County, where several companies are working on plant and distribution center expansions.

Construction is already underway, and by the end of the year, two companies will have brand new facilities up and running. There will soon be a new Fed-Ex freight distribution center in Northwood, and a Caphalon in Middleton Township.

Wood County Economic Development Director Wade Gottschalk says he's not surprised companies continue to choose that area for development.

"We have a very business-friendly atmosphere from all levels of the political spectrum," Gottschalk said. "We also have great transportational and locational assets: I-75, I-80 and 90."

Between the two companies, nearly 100 new jobs could be created, and even more retained.

Michael Saleh is the manager at Moody's Coney Island, which is located right by the Fed-Ex center that's being built. He says he's glad the other companies chose his area to expand, and the number of people stopping in for lunch just keeps growing.

"Right next door we've got a pizza place and a Chinese restaurant," Saleh said. "Before, these places were vacant and we had no other restaurants, besides us, in this complex for a few years, and it's really helped expand that."
