Local figure skaters take to ice for cancer

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A local figure skating team is using its talent on the ice to help people battling cancer.

A group of young ice skaters from Northwest Ohio will participate in this year's "Skate for Hope."

It's the 10th anniversary of the annual figure skating event that benefits breast cancer research and awareness.

This year's "Skate for Hope" is on June 15, 2013, in Columbus, Ohio.

In preparation for the event, the "Rising Starz," under the supervision of Shelly Bressler, will be performing a free ice skating exhibition on Friday, April 5, 2013, at the Bowling Green State University Ice Arena.

The exhibition is from 7:00-8:00 PM.

Some of the young skaters have been personally affected by cancer, and they say their purpose for participating is to honor the people in their lives who have been diagnosed with the disease.

Amanda St. Hilaire talks to the local skaters at the Bowling Green State University Ice Arena on "Your Morning," and even laces up a pair of skates to learn a few skills.
