The new, one-of-a-kind senior citizen facility is expected to open in the summer of 2013.
TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Toledo seniors will soon have another option for care once the Genesis Village opens. Plans are taking shape for the new living facility after years of major renovations.
The former Holiday Inn on Reynolds Road in south Toledo has been repurposed as the new facility. On Wednesday morning, Toledo Mayor Mike Bell, along with other city leaders, hosted a breakfast in the facility's ballroom.
"We want them to be energized. This is not a place where you come sit in your room and watch TV. We want you to come out of the room and enjoy the fellowship," said CEO of Genesis Village, Jim Oedy.
City leaders say this facility is one of a kind. Renovations will provide 138 private one and two-bedroom apartments, along with an indoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, library, multimedia center with a theater-sized screen and more.
Oedy and Dr. Nathan Hill, vice president of Genesis Village, are the backbones of the project, investing a total of $9 million. It is an investment Bell says is going to impact the Southwyck community.
"It's really a big day for Toledo. It's a big day for the Southwyck area. And I think this could be a very positive spin-off to other things happening in a positive way in this area," said Bell.
With large dining areas able to accommodate for more than 500 people, Genesis Village plans to host a number of nonprofit functions and senior events.
The three-year project is expected to be complete by June 2013.
